The Ventura County Youth Correctional Facility (VCYCF) has significant potential for our region and our state. Senator Limón and I have expressed to our state agency partners our interest in closely following their decision making process as to whether this property has value as a state asset or should become surplus property. We want to ensure that the public is on the same page regarding the status of this property. We have outlined the process for disposal of state property for you below, and want to emphasize that it may take years for the state to declare this surplus property. Until the state reaches that decision, it is premature to discuss local plans for the facility.
I have personally toured the VCYCF with remaining on-site staff who continue to maintain the grounds and keep the buildings in good operating condition. The integrity of the buildings and infrastructure are in decent shape, and will be of good service to the next owners.
As the state legislator who represents the area encompassing VCYCF, alongside Senator Monique Limón, we are committed to being in close touch with DGS throughout this process, and sharing opportunities as they arise for our local community.
If you wish to stay informed, we encourage you to sign up for our Interest List for updates on this property.
Thank you,
Steve Bennett
