Across the country, we observe Women's History Month every March. The 38th Assembly District has had its fair share of outstanding women who have selflessly contributed to the betterment of our communities. We are pleased to uplift a woman who embodies the spirit of service and leadership.
Michelle Ascencion, a longtime Ventura County resident, made history as the first woman and person of color elected as County Clerk and Recorder in Ventura County's 150-year history. This served as a monumental milestone in her 20-year public service career that all started by answering a small job advertisement for the City of Port Hueneme in 2006.
Over the years, Ascencion has served countless Ventura County residents through her various roles in this community. Notably, during her four-year term as the elected Oxnard City Clerk, she modernized administrative systems, independently managed a recall election, and maintained fiscal responsibility despite economic challenges. In 2020, she joined the County of Ventura as the Assistant County Clerk-Recorder and just three years later she was elected Ventura County Clerk and Recorder. Committed to transparency, security, and accessibility, Ascencion champions education and outreach to empower the Ventura County community she is proud to call home.
Michelle's journey began in the classrooms of Santa Clara High School and Oxnard College, and she remains rooted here, alongside her husband David and their four children, continuing to build a legacy of service in the community she loves.
Thank you, Michelle, for all that you are and do for our community!
