Assemblywoman Smith Releases Statement Upon Passage of Final State Budget
SACRAMENTO, CA — Assemblywoman Christy Smith (D-Santa Clarita) released the statement below following the passage of the 2020-21 state budget:
“I returned to Sacramento today to vote on the final 2020-21 State Budget. This budget has gone through many iterations, one that started when our economy was at its peak, and now reflects the realities of a pandemic-induced recession with no clear end date. This economic devastation is felt deeply by families and small businesses throughout the state, which is why the preservation of social services, education and health care — championed by the California State Legislature — is so important.
The finalized State Budget was the summation of hard decisions, including 10 percent pay cuts to state workers. To stand in solidarity with hard-working civil servants working around the clock to address the needs of Californians, I will also be taking a 10 percent pay cut to my salary, effective immediately.”
The budget now awaits Governor Gavin Newsom’s signature.
